Public Relations
Today, I'm doing a bit of public relations for my late father. He died in 1991. My brother David, who followed him, died in 1999.
I'm helping to popularize his colossal work, because my father was one of the greatest painters and lacquer decorators of his time.
We've recently been to Giverny a good ten times, more than that, even. We picnic nearby just before visiting.
At the beginning of 2025, there was the Renoir exhibition in Guernsey. Right now, there's another exhibition, notably with Matisse and Cézanne, I think. I think so.
Monet is a major figure of Impressionism. There's also Boudin, Bonnard, who was a Nabi along with Vuillard and Maurice Denis, Rotkho for modern art, and so many others.
Giverny attracts thousands of visitors and tourists every year. Americans are still very present, as are Germans.
But my father is no longer here; he dominated the scene during his lifetime with his class and pictorial mastery. He left a huge void behind him.
Other doors are opening for artists, new or forgotten fields remain untapped, and the public remains to be won over.
Unfortunately, Europe is experiencing an interminable bloody conflict, and these times of fratricidal warfare sound the death knell for our hopes for a freer and safer world.
In art, the differences in level are considerable; there is something for everyone.
There remain fields of expression into which we can navigate, certain niches.
But overall, the die has long been cast. The world is going through a rough patch today.
If I don't open a workshop in a few years, our prosaic world will disappear, or will be doomed to disappear little by little.
It's also the law of gender, of supply and demand.
But all is not yet lost; new forces can still emerge and help bring about a fairer, more balanced transition.
I've always strived to emerge from this rough patch, and it's mainly a matter of resources.---------- I hope you enjoy many discoveries on my blogs. I'm moving to a larger house in a month and a half.
I've published an essay on industrial design, which is one of almost a thousand articles on my various blogs. I invite you to discover it. I've been in the railway industry since April 2017, and I had already worked in this sector for 18 months before that. I have almost 9 years of experience in industrial and mechanical design.
Another essay on polyester varnish is also worthy of interest, as are others on lacquers and cellulose varnishes.
I'm leaving in August, moving mid-September, and if the opportunity to work in a studio arises, I would be really happy to get back into furniture design.
I have some apprehensions about an MRI on the 25th, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
This vast opus, dedicated to the memory of my father, should help the public understand his work, so vast and extensive was his work.
I sometimes meet people who knew him or were in contact with him, and I strive to perpetuate his memory while respecting tradition. My father was a great innovator, a tremendous colorist and patinator of bitumen and cellulose. He really knew how to smoke tables and furniture.
I wouldn't want the craft to be lost, and I plan to repair tables soon and improve the manufacturing processes.
Best regards.
Christian Diez Axnick.
